Victoria Embankment, London
The Listed Camel Benches
Branson Leisure restored the hardwood slats for the listed Camel benches found on Victoria Embankment, originally produced in the 1870s. Many believe they relate to the Cleopatra's Needle display, though they may also support the Imperial Camel Corps commemoration unveiled nearby in 1916.
Of the original ten benches, nine remain β but were badly in need of restoration. Slats were repaired or, where missing, replaced with sustainably grown Iroko hardwood. The castings were cleaned and all slats tightened after treatment with a teak-colour water repellent.
